# Miles to Next Stop column (Drivers/Assets table)

> What the Miles to Next Stop column in Dispatch Planner v2 shows for a driver, where the mileage comes from, and why it can be blank or out of date.

Part of the [Dispatch Planner column reference](/en/help/loads-trips/dispatch-planner-columns).

The **Miles to Next Stop** column shows how many miles a driver has left to the next stop on their trip, rounded to whole miles. Use it with **ETA to Next Stop** to see which drivers are close to finishing a stop.

## At a glance

| | |
| - | - |
| **Table** | Drivers/Assets |
| **Shown by default** | Yes |
| **Sort** | Yes |
| **Filter** | Enter a number or range. The filter starts on less than or equal to. |
| **Who sees it** | Everyone who can open Dispatch Planner v2 |
| **Edit in the grid** | No |

## Where does the mileage come from?

The planner checks two sources in order and shows the first one that has a value:

1. **The mileage on the driver's active trip.** If Driver 1 has a **Dispatched** or **In Transit** trip that Alvys calculates stop ETAs for, the column shows the miles to the next stop recorded on that trip.
2. **The mileage sent with the driver's last ping.** When a location report arrives, Alvys works out the miles from that position to the next stop of the trip the reporting driver, truck, or trailer was on. This is the same report shown in the **Last Ping** column.

## Why is the column blank or out of date?

**The driver has no mileage.** The driver has no active trip with recorded mileage, and their last ping did not include any. For example, the reporting device was not on a trip when it last reported.

**A value of zero shows a dash.** The cell shows a dash rather than 0 mi.

**Mileage from the last ping only changes when a new ping arrives.** There is no age limit, so the value can be out of date if the driver's devices have stopped reporting.

**Only Driver 1 counts.** For a two-driver team, the column follows Driver 1's trip and pings.

## Is it the same as the Trips table column?

Not always. The Trips table shows the mileage for each trip from that trip's own drivers, truck, and trailer, and only uses pings from the last seven days. The Drivers/Assets table follows Driver 1 and uses pings of any age, so the two can show different values for the same trip.
