# Trailer column (Drivers/Assets table)

> What the Trailer column in Dispatch Planner v2 shows, which of the driver's trips the trailer comes from, and why it can differ from the trailer the driver is pulling now.

Part of the [Dispatch Planner column reference](/en/help/loads-trips/dispatch-planner-columns).

The **Trailer** column shows the trailer number from Driver 1's trips. Use it to see which trailer a driver is tied to before you assign them a trip that needs specific equipment.

## At a glance

| | |
| - | - |
| **Table** | Drivers/Assets |
| **Shown by default** | Yes |
| **Sort** | Yes |
| **Filter** | Type text to match |
| **Who sees it** | Everyone who can open Dispatch Planner v2 |
| **Edit in the grid** | No. The column follows the trailers assigned to the driver's trips. |

## Which trailer does the column show?

The trailer is not part of the assignment preference. The planner looks at Driver 1's trips that have a trailer assigned, and shows the trailer from the trip with the latest delivery date. The trip's status does not matter, so a **Covered** trip that delivers next week counts.

If Driver 1 has no trip with a trailer, the column shows a dash. The planner does not fall back to any other trailer.

The filter matches any part of the trailer number, and it is not case sensitive.

## Why does a driver show a trailer I did not expect?

**A later trip sets the trailer.** Because the trip with the latest delivery date wins, a trip planned further out sets the trailer, even while the driver is still pulling a different trailer on the current trip.

**Only Driver 1's trips count.** For a two-driver team, the trailer comes from trips where the team's Driver 1 is the first driver on the trip. Trips where that driver is listed second do not count.

**Trailer numbers sort as text.** Sorting is alphabetical, so trailer 100 sorts before trailer 20. Drivers with no trailer sort last.

## How is the trailer used when I assign a trip?

When you assign a single trip to the driver, the trailer field starts with the trip's own trailer. If the trip has no trailer, the field starts with the trailer from this column. You can change it before you save.

## Why doesn't the column mark external trailers?

The **Trailer** column shows the trailer number only. To check whether a trailer belongs to your fleet, select the driver's row and look at the **Trailer** section of the asset sidebar. On accounts where external trailers are turned on, a trailer that is not in your fleet shows an **External** badge next to its number there.
