# Equipment Type column (Trips table)

> What the Equipment Type column in Dispatch Planner v2 shows, how to filter trips by equipment, and why a trip can drop out of the list when you select a driver.

The **Equipment Type** column shows the equipment each trip needs, such as **Van**, **Reefer**, or **Flatbed**. Use it to match open trips to drivers and trailers that can haul them.

## How does the filter work?

**Typing text matches part of the name.** Case does not matter, so typing "reefer" keeps **Reefer**, **Reefer - Hazardous**, and **Reefer w/ Team**.

**Picking from the list matches exact equipment types.** The list offers every equipment type in Alvys, not only the ones on the page. Pick each variation you want, because picking **Reefer** does not also keep **Reefer w/ Team**.

## Why does a trip drop out when I select a driver?

When you select a driver in the Drivers/Assets table, the Trips table narrows to trips that driver can take. One of those checks is equipment: the planner filters this column to the equipment types in the driver's assignment preference.

A trip whose equipment type is not in the preference does not appear. A trip with no equipment type does not appear either. If the driver's assignment preference has no equipment selected, the planner does not filter on equipment at all.

## Why is the column blank?

The trip has no equipment type recorded. A trip with a blank equipment type never matches a value you pick from the filter list.
