# ETA to Next Stop column (Trips table)

> What the ETA to Next Stop column in the Dispatch Planner v2 Trips table shows, how the driving time is worked out, and why it can be blank or out of date.

Part of the [Dispatch Planner column reference](/en/help/loads-trips/dispatch-planner-columns).

The **ETA to Next Stop** column shows the estimated driving time from where the trip last reported to its next stop, for example **2 hours, 30 minutes**. Use it to spot trips that are about to arrive and trips that are still far out.

## At a glance

| | |

| **Table** | Trips |
| **Shown by default** | Yes |
| **Sort** | Yes |
| **Filter** | Enter a time or time range, such as **2h 30m** |
| **Who sees it** | Everyone who can open Dispatch Planner v2 |
| **Edit in the grid** | No |

## How is the time worked out?

1. The planner takes the most recent position reported by any asset on the trip: Driver 1, Driver 2, the truck, or the trailer. Positions more than 7 days old are ignored.
2. When that position came in, Alvys calculated the driving time from there to the next stop. If the position came from an ELD that also reports the driver's hours of service, the time includes the breaks the driver's remaining hours call for.
3. The cell shows that time in its two largest units, such as **1 day, 4 hours** or **2 hours, 30 minutes**.

**Trips with ETAs from Trimble work differently.** If the trip's ETAs come from Trimble, the cell shows the time from now until Trimble's estimated arrival at the next pickup or delivery that is still open. This value gets shorter each time the table loads.

To filter, type a time using **d** for days, **h** for hours, and **m** for minutes, such as **1d 4h** or **45m**.

## Why is the time blank or not what I expected?

**The time does not count down between positions.** Apart from trips with Trimble ETAs, the time is calculated when a position comes in and stays the same until the next one. If the last position is 3 hours old, the cell still shows the driving time as it was 3 hours ago.

**No recent position.** On a trip without Trimble ETAs, the cell is blank when the trip has no driver, truck, or trailer assigned, or when none of them has reported a position with a city or state in the last 7 days. The **Last Ping** column has no age limit, so it can show a place while this column is blank.

**No route to the next stop.** The cell is blank when the position could not be matched to a next stop, or when the driving time could not be calculated.

**The estimated arrival has passed.** For a trip with Trimble ETAs, the cell is blank once Trimble's estimated arrival time is in the past.

**The time can belong to another trip.** Each position is tied to one trip the asset is on when it reports. If a trip is **Covered** and its driver is still running an earlier trip, the time can be to that earlier trip's next stop.
