# Origin State column (Trips table)

> What the Origin State column in Dispatch Planner v2 shows and how to filter trips to one or more starting states or provinces.

Part of the [Dispatch Planner column reference](/en/help/loads-trips/dispatch-planner-columns).

The **Origin State** column shows the state or province code of the stop where each trip starts, such as TX. Use it to narrow the Trips table to trips starting in the states you cover, without setting a radius.

## At a glance

| | |
| - | - |
| **Table** | Trips |
| **Shown by default** | Yes |
| **Sort** | Yes |
| **Filter** | Pick one or more states |
| **Who sees it** | Everyone who can open Dispatch Planner v2 |
| **Edit in the grid** | No |

## How does the state filter work?

The list holds every US state, Canadian province, and Mexican state, shown as a name and code, such as **Texas (TX)**. Type in the **Search states** box to find one quickly. States you tick are listed first.

A trip matches when the state on its first stop's address is one of the states you picked. The match is on the state itself, not on distance, so a trip that starts just across a state line does not match. To match by distance instead, use the radius in the **Origin Location** filter.

The column reads the trip's first stop, which on most trips is the first pickup.

## Why is the column blank?

**The first stop's address has no state.** The column shows a dash, and the trip does not match any state you pick.
