Part of the Dispatch Planner column reference. The Last Ping column shows the city and state of a driver’s most recent reported location. The location can come from the driver, their truck, or their trailer, whichever reported last. Use it to see roughly where a driver is right now.

At a glance

Where does the location come from?

The planner looks at location reports from up to three sources and shows the most recent one:
  1. The driver. Location reports tied to Driver 1 always count.
  2. The truck and trailer on the driver’s current trip. If Driver 1 has a Covered, Dispatched, or In Transit trip, the planner uses that trip’s truck and trailer. In Transit trips come first, then Dispatched, then Covered. If the trip has no truck yet, the truck on the driver’s assignment preference is used.
  3. Otherwise, the truck on the assignment preference. If the driver has no such trip, the planner uses the truck on their assignment preference. If there is no truck there either, it uses the truck and trailer from the driver’s most recent trip.
Trucks and trailers the driver used on earlier trips do not count, even if they reported more recently. The cell shows only the city and state. It does not show when the report arrived, and there is no age limit, so the location can be old if the devices have stopped reporting.

Why is the column blank?

None of the sources has reported a location. The driver, the truck, and the trailer the planner checks have no location report with a city or state. The driver has no truck to check. If the driver has no current trip, no truck on their assignment preference, and no recent trip, only the driver’s own reports count. The truck or trailer does not report locations. Check that the truck is set up with an ELD or tracking integration that sends positions. To fix a blank value, confirm the driver is on the right trip or has the right truck on their assignment preference, then confirm that truck reports its position.

How does filtering by place work?

Picking a place adds a distance column. When you filter Last Ping by a place and a radius, the Distance To Current column appears and shows how far each driver’s last ping is from that place. Drivers with no ping are left out. A place-and-radius filter only matches drivers whose last ping has a location on the map.
