Part of the Dispatch Planner column reference. The Total Miles column shows each trip’s loaded miles: the distance from the trip’s first pickup to its last delivery, through every stop in between. Use it to compare trip lengths at a glance. Despite the name, it does not include empty miles, such as the drive to reach the first pickup.

At a glance

How is Total Miles worked out?

  • If the trip’s dispatch mileage source is Automatic, your mileage engine calculates the distance from the first pickup to the last delivery, and recalculates it when stops are added, removed, or reordered.
  • If the source is Manual, the value is the loaded miles entered on the trip, and it does not recalculate.
  • If you change the trip’s loaded miles on the load, this column and Loaded Dispatch Mileage both take the new value.
Driving before the first pickup or after the last delivery, such as a leg to a waypoint, is empty mileage and is not part of Total Miles. The cell shows a plain number of miles, for example 512. The filter starts on Less than or equal to, so entering 500 keeps trips of 500 miles or less. See Mileage Sources and Types for how mileage sources and engines work.

How do the three mileage columns relate?

No column adds loaded and empty miles together. For a trip’s full driven distance, add Loaded Dispatch Mileage and Empty Dispatch Mileage.

Why is the column blank?

No loaded miles have been calculated or entered for the trip. Trips with a blank value stay at the bottom whichever way you sort.
