Part of the Dispatch Planner column reference. The Origin Region column shows the DAT region where each trip picks up, such as South Central or Great Lakes. DAT regions are large groupings of states and provinces. Use the column to sort and filter trips by the broad area they start in when a single market is too narrow.

At a glance

Which regions are there?

The filter list offers the 18 DAT regions: California, Canada Central, Canada East, Canada West, Carolinas, Florida-So Georgia, Great Lakes, Lower Atlantic, Lower Midwest, Lower Mountain, New England, Ohio River, Pacific Northwest, South Central, Southeast, Upper Atlantic, Upper Midwest, and Upper Mountain.

How is the region assigned?

The planner works out the region from the map coordinates of the trip’s first pickup:
  1. If the pickup sits inside a DAT region, the column shows that region.
  2. If the pickup sits inside two overlapping regions, the column lists both in alphabetical order, separated by a semicolon.
  3. If the pickup sits outside every region, the column shows the nearest region, as long as one is close enough, within about 500 miles.
The column reads the first pickup, not the first stop. On a trip that starts with a waypoint, Origin Location shows the waypoint while Origin Region shows the region of the first pickup.

How do I filter by region?

Type text to match any part of the region name, such as Midwest, which finds both Lower Midwest and Upper Midwest. Typing also finds trips that list two regions. Pick from the list to match trips whose region is exactly one you picked. A trip that lists two regions does not match a single region picked from the list, so type the name instead.

Why is the column blank?

The trip has no pickup stop. With no pickup there is no location to place in a region. The first pickup has no map coordinates. See Understanding address input to set coordinates on a stop. The first pickup is far from every DAT region. A pickup more than about 500 miles from the nearest region gets no region.
